Model History
Contender Boats started producing fishing focused outboard powered boats back in the late 1980's at their factory in Homestead, Florida, right next door to the Homestead Motor Speedway. Contender has built a strong following among hard-core offshore fishermen looking for a dedicated fishing platform with exceptional performance in offshore conditions. The 23 Open Fish was one of their earliest models with production dating back to 1990. With a 21 year plus production run, the 23 OF is a well developed boat with a strong following and remains in production today.Construction
Contender has the reputation for building a strong but light vessel with performance to match. The boats are built with knitted multi-directional fiberglass cloth and modified polyester resin. The stringers (framework) are built with a foam core completely encapsulated in fiberglass which are impervious to rot. The hull bottom and sides of the 23 OF are solid glass while the decks are cored with foam sandwiched by layers of fiberglass.
The hull to deck joint is a "shoe box" style which is chemically and mechanically fastened.Trailer
