Model History
Tiara Yachts introduced the 2900 Coronet in 1997. At the time, tiara said that the boat was "Developed as an entry model to the Tiara Yachts product family, ... is a multi-purpose dayboat designed to be a rugged performer. And Affordable ... with interior accommodations the can even qualify it for "second home" tax deduction." The boat is just that, the perfect dayboat with more deck space than most 35' express cruisers. The Coronet is still in production today, some 11 years after her introduction. This speaks volumes as to the importance and popularity of this model. This 1998 model is all but identical to the 2008 model sold new today. The one significant change were the engine options. At the time "Day Dreamer" was made, there was only the twin 454 Crusader power package. The 454 were dropped in 1999 as the factory went with a pair of 350 engines. At the time "Day Dreamer" was made, there was only the twin 454 Crusader power package. The 454 were dropped in 1999 as the factory went with a pair of 350 engines. While the horsepower of the engines were similar, the 454 package is both smoother and faster than the 350 engines. Something to keep in mind as you look at Coronets in the late 90's vintage.
Construction
Tiara uses premium polyester and vinylester resins along with the finest in E-glass knitted fiberglass cloth in the layup of their products. The 2900's hull is solid fiberglass below the waterline and is cored with Baltek balsa core in the hull sides above the waterline. The hull has 19 degrees of deadrise at the transom and features two running strakes, reversed chines ans shallow prop tunnels. The stringers are a grid system design made of hand-laid fiberglass and cored with marine grade plywood. The deck layup is similar to the hull's but with the balsa coring used to stiffen the walking areas of the deck. The hull to deck joint is a "shoe box" style that is chemically and mechanically fastened and is covered with a stainless steel rub rail. The entire boat is hand-laid to the highest standards.
Cabin Walk-Thru
With the 2900 being a dayboat, cabin accommodations are minimal but well layout and superbly finished. The cabin is entered via the centerline bi-fold companionway door and folding hatch. There are three steps down to the teak cabin sole. In the bow, there is a generous v-berth with three storage lockers beneath and port & starboard shelves along the hull sides. Aft to starboard is the mini-galley with most comforts found in full size units. Opposite the galley on port, there is an enclosed head with plenty of privacy. Under the cabin steps, you will find additional storage and access to the battery switches and electrical breaker panel. The cabin is finished in white vinyl and Formica with teak trim and a teak & holly cabin sole. The berth is covered in a bright and energetic fabric that Tiara called Picasso. Head room in cabin is about 5'11".

Mechanical Systems
The heart of the mechanical systems of the Coronet are the pair of straight shaft Crusader 454 fuel injected engines located beneath the helm deck. The engines are fresh water cooled and appear to be in outstanding condition. Scheduled maintenance is up to date including the replacement of the risers and heat exchanger system in September of 2006. Engine access is very good via the electric hatch lifter which raises the aft end of helm deck. Access to the stern bilge area is through the two removable storage bends in the transom. One additional note, Tiara uses a patented Toggle Bolt mounting system to secure the engine mounts to the stringers. This system essentially thru-bolts the engines to the hull structure of the vessel for and additional level reliability when conditions are rough.
